12-year-old Carlos is sent to the bleak Santa Lucia orphanage. Santa Lucia is run by the crippled matron Carmen and the mysterious Professor Casares. The orphanage is located in a desolate place, and its courtyard is marred by a huge, unexploded bomb. The ghost of a young boy, Sant, who was brutally murdered, appears to Carlos. At first, the ghost begs for release from his suffering, but then he begins to warn of an impending disaster and asks Carlos to avenge him.
